Power Generation

A Texas power generation plant contacted Topaz knowing they could depend on our expertise. The plant needed to replace four faulty valves on 12" laterals that branched off a 24” water header, and the plant engineer responsible for the project wanted to isolate the 12” valves without shutting down the header. Additionally, the entire job was subject to a relatively severe time constraint.

 

Topaz proposed plugging the 24” header with a temporary bypass around the section of the header containing the laterals, but during consultations with the engineer onsite, it was determined that clearance issues would prevent getting the 24” tapping and plugging equipment into place. An alternate solution of plugging the four 12” laterals simultaneously was ultimately settled on as the only viable option. Topaz technicians performed line plugging operations on all the laterals between the header and faulty valves, allowing the problem valves to be replaced.

This job was completed safely and on time, while avoiding costly system shutdown.
