A large Southeast Texas petrochemical plant contacted Topaz, Inc. when it needed to replace a damaged pipe section on a 6" ANSI 600# propane line operating at 677 PSIG and ambient temperature, without a unit shutdown.

The Topaz service department suggested a line plugging solution which included supplying the weld on line plugging fittings, hot tap and line plugging equipment and technician to do the job.

Hot taps were made at the plugging locations and the plugging tools were installed into the line through Topaz temporary valves. Our technician performed two cold cuts to remove the damaged pipe section. This permitted new replacement pipe to be welded into the system. The technician removed the plugging tools, set completion plugs, removed the temporary valves, and installed blind flanges. The job was completed safely, on time and within budget.
