Industrial Construction
A construction firm building a new unit in a refinery on the Gulf Coast contacted Topaz when they needed help at the interface between the new unit and adjacent units already in operation. In order to reconfigure an existing pipe rack a 100' section of 16” process piping, which swaged down to 12” at an eccentric reducer, had to be relocated. Since the line could not be shut down without bringing down the operating unit, Topaz performed a line plugging operation to enable the reroute.
Using specially designed three-way tee plugging fittings, Topaz performed a 12" X 16" dual plugging job through Topaz temporary valves. 12” permanent bypass piping was preinstalled between the two three-way tees to enable the line relocation without interrupting flow. Topaz made 12" and 16" cold cuts to remove the isolated section of the pipeline and permit capping of the cut ends of the old line. With the new line now in service, the Topaz equipment was removed and the plugging tees were blinded.
